THE WORLD TOUR OF OUR PROJECTS

Committed to a fair and responsible approach, respectful of Humans and his environment, Puressentiel supports many causes and associations that share the same values.

Isabelle Pacchioni

Puressentiel strives to preserve the environment as a whole, to favor the ecosystem, by taking care not to punctuate a crop to the point of endangering it (no deforestation, no uprooting), or even to plan for plantations several years before possible exploitation. This, while respecting fundamental human rights, in particular the exclusion of discrimination, forced labor and the exploitation of children.

SO, TODAY, THE PURESSENTIEL FOUNDATION IS ACTIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD:

Bees protection
1,200,000 PROTECTED BEES AND WILD BEE SAVING

In France and Belgium, we have been supporting 12 beekeepers and 16 organic hives, in conversion, PDO, beginners ... from the Un Toit Pour les Abeilles network, since 2018.

This network participates in the safeguarding of bees and in the development of colonies, in France and in Belgium, and thus, in the protection of biodiversity.

In particular, by protecting the Black Bee ("Apis Mellifera Mellifera"), a species that used to be dominant in Europe: in France today there are barely 10% of Black Bees. This is the ancestral bee, our original bee, the one that withstood the two periods of glaciation. Today it is threatened.

In 2020, The Puressentiel Foundation also protects wild bees and becomes a "pamper".

40% of wild bees are endangered. These bees live alone, do not make honey, do not bite but participate very actively in biodiversity by being champions of pollination. Without them, many flowers would not turn into fruit or vegetables.

15 HECTARES OF MANGROVES REPLANTED AND 600 HECTARES OF SENEGALESE MANGROVES MONITORED.

With the Eclosio association, whose mission is to strengthen initiatives that respect the human and the environment and to contribute to the exercise of the fundamental rights of populations.

Project 2020 consists of the restoration and protection of the Senegalese mangrove ecosystem in the commune of Joal-Fadiouth, Senegal.

Mangrove is an area located between land and sea, whose vegetation grows in fresh or salt water.

Senegal has some 185,000 hectares. It is one of the richest ecosystems in the world, the green lung of the earth. Numerous species of birds, monkeys, fish, crabs, shellfish... find refuge, feed and reproduce there.

Eclosio Foundation Puressentiel

If the mangrove is of capital importance at the ecological level, its safeguard is also essential for the populations which use its resources (fishing, firewood, traditional pharmacopeia...) to meet their needs. This ecosystem is threatened by various factors: conversion of land for aquaculture and agriculture, coastal development, pollution, and climate change, drought and overexploitation of resources (overcutting for firewood and construction, overharvesting of oysters and other shellfish, etc.). As a result, mangroves are disappearing at an alarming rate. A quarter of its total surface area has disappeared since the 1970s. The activities planned within the framework of this project focus on the reforestation of mangroves and the monitoring of the marine protected area, through the support of eco guards. Preserving biodiversity also allows women oysters and ark (shellfish found in Africa) producers to continue to live decently.

Eclosio Puressentiel

This project is part of a vast project, called DEMETER, carried out with the support of the European Union. It brings together 14 NGOs and local associations, which together share, improve and disseminate their tools, methodologies and good management practices to help local communities live better in mangrove areas.

This project presented to the Puressentiel Foundation is submitted by 2 local women's groups ("Mbooga Yaay" from Joal, jointly with the "Women and shells" group from Fadiouth).

ACCESS TO WATER FOR MORE THAN 1000 CHILDREN IN 21 CRÈCHES

With the association La Froggies Family in South Africa.

The association raises funds to finance long-term projects, supported by local structures, for the benefit of underprivileged children throughout the world. Our project is called "TeachLove Care Network".

Last year, rainwater harvesting tanks were installed in 21 crèches in the township of Bloekombos, Cape Town, supported by the organisation. The water is now accessible for the crèches but outside so it needs to be transported inside for use. The Puressentiel Foundation's endowment will ensure the optimal and safe use of the rainwater collected, without transporting it from the outside to the inside, as well as the production of hot water.

The nurseries take in children up to the age of 5. They play a vital role in township communities and have been recognized as one of the most powerful tools for breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty in South Africa, as long as the conditions are right.

Children who go there do better in school and are better integrated socially.

However, in the townships on the outskirts of Cape Town, the very precarious situation of the families does not allow a decent functioning of a crèche.

Thus, the Puressentiel Foundation's endowment will allow savings to be carried over to investments directly related to the children's education (educational materials, teachers).

This project is part of a global action of standardization and improvement of the children’s living conditions. Achievements since 2015 are, among others: installation of ceilings, kitchen, shower room, roof repair, change of windows, installation of toilets, installation of play porticoes, installation of off-ground vegetable gardens, construction of mezzanines.

SUSTAINABLE ACCESS TO IRRIGATION WATER FOR 300 PERUVIAN FAMILIES

With the association Eclosio, whose mission is to strengthen initiatives that respect people and the environment and contribute to the exercise of people's fundamental rights.

The priority intervention zone of the project supported by the Puressentiel Foundation in 2020 is located in the Pescado River watershed, in the Black Cordillera of the Ancash region in Peru, between 1,500 and 5,000 meters above sea level.

The project will contribute to the resilience of the communities to climate change risks. In particular, irregular rainfall, prolonged periods of drought and the precarious nature of the gravity-fed irrigation system, are causing production and soil erosion problems in plots with slopes of up to 75%.

Eclosio Peru Puressentiel

The Puressentiel Foundation will provide sustainable access to water for 300 peasant families in the region where agriculture and animal husbandry are the main activities.

A project that will also allow :

  • Better involvement of women in irrigation management (reduction of drudgery work) and production (interest for small livestock farming);
  • The improvement of their incomes through improved nutrition (quantity and quality of fodder) from small-scale farming, particularly guinea pigs, which they are responsible for raising and marketing.
  • Finally, it also makes it possible to diversify agricultural production and to offer a more balanced diet, an important element in the fight against malnutrition among children.

PROVIDING A DAILY MEAL TO 193 SCHOOL CHILDREN IN HAITI

With the association Ô Secours des Enfants Démunis Haïtiens (OSEDH).

Since 2015, the association has been supporting a school in Haiti, in one of the poorest rural areas.

The project financed by the Puressentiel Foundation consists of providing one meal a day to the 193 children attending free school (in the rural village of La Colline d'Aquin in south-west Haiti). The Puressentiel Foundation is also involved in the digging of a well-providing access to drinking water, as well as the implementation of a complete module on agro-economics ("Green education") for these 193 pupils.

At the start of the school year in September 2019, the association observed a significant drop (-23%) in the number of children enrolled in its free school, compared to the 2018-2019 school year.

In Haiti, children help their parents to earn money from an early age, which is why most children cannot go to school. The association pays the school fees for the children. Offering one meal a day to these school children helps reduce the dropout rate during the course of the school year.

OSEDH Puressentiel
OSEDH Puressentiel Foundation

The project also includes the digging of a well to provide access to water so that the children can hydrate themselves on a daily basis and have water access to water the fruit tree shoots planted as part of the "Green Education" program.

Since May 2018, the association has set up a reforestation program to raise children's awareness to protect their environment. Although the school is located in a rural rather than an urban area, it is important to educate future generations on the importance of protecting their environment. Haiti is located in a seismic zone that is experiencing a number of natural disasters that destroy everything in their path and impact humans and their natural environment on a large scale.

On the other hand, the rural area where the school is located lacks vital human resources and facilities, such as electricity or even sewerage. Garbage management is a real problem due to the lack of sustainable infrastructure, which penalizes men and affects the environment on a daily basis where some garbage piles up in nature destroying the ecosystem.

The objective of this medium and long term project is to accompany children and therefore future generations in their education so that they respect and protect their natural environment.

ACCESS TO EDUCATION FOR 70 ORPHAN CHILDREN IN RWANDA

With the association Harmonious Initiatives

The association's mission is to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, and in this case, access to education for children.

In Rwanda, more than 50% of the population is under the age of 15, and 10% of children are orphans. During its field visit to Rwanda, Harmonious Initiatives met with several categories of children under poverty, malnutrition, and lack of water. Orphans fall into the most vulnerable category.

Certainly, Rwanda has made progress in making school free and compulsory for every child in primary school. However, having all the materials is still a condition for access to school. Unlike other African countries, it is not possible to organize collections of school materials.

Puressentiel Hamonious initiatives foundation
Harmonious initiatives Puressentiel

The project supported by the Puressentiel Foundation is to give access to education to 70 orphans in Rwanda, taking care of their material needs for the school year 2020.

Beneficiaries: 70 orphan children.

6 awareness-raising sessions will be organized on cross-cutting issues: environment, gender, and sexual education, in 2 schools and the orphans' home, local partners of Harmonious Initiatives.

This project is the first stone of a more global and sustainable international solidarity action in Rwanda: to respond to the rights to health and malnutrition, another basic need in line with the International Convention for Children.

20,000 MORINGAS PLANTED

The Puressentiel Foundation participates in the fight against the dramatic deforestation in Madagascar with the Humada association by planting 10,000 endemic trees (moringas with a thousand resources) in the Mikea forest near Tulear in 2020, and by monitoring their exploitation as well as that of the 10,000 trees planted in 2019.

This project includes a plan to raise public awareness of nature protection and sustainable development. In particular, it includes the implementation of reforestation and training operations with schools in the Tuléar area.

Humada Fondation Puressentiel
Humada Puressentiel

The three main focuses of the Humada association are: health, children's education and the environment, particularly in the face of new climate challenges. In 11 years, Humada has built 11 schools, colleges and high schools in this region, in partnership with the Malagasy education system.

In 2018, the "first generation" of students of a "Humada" school passed the baccalaureate!

PROVIDE ACCESS TO DRINKING
WATER FOR 150 PEOPLE

In Haiti, with the association 'Un Enfant Par La Main', we are building a water basin in the northwestern part of the 'Chaîne des Matheux', which has only benefited from rare development projects for decades. The difficult access to water is one of the most important issues in the area. Our project is part of a plan to build 3 basins.

Thus, local families will have easier access to water for agricultural use (watering market gardening and forestry nurseries, watering livestock) but also for domestic use, to facilitate daily life (cooking, laundry, personal hygiene, crockery).

By reducing water collection times for women and children, this facilitates education. Finally, these basins help to combat runoff, soil erosion and agricultural land degradation.

This project, originally planned for 2019, could not see the light because of serious political and social incidents that have shaken the country.
